Podcasting and Geocaching?

What could they possibly have in common? Burying your kid's ipod in the woods under a fallen tree? Maybe listening to someone many miles away talk about their best cache? Nope, and nope. It's podcaching! Oh yes, it's a new phrase, and another twist to geocaching!

Alas, what if you don't have one of these infernal machines, and have no intention of getting one? As long as you have an mp3 player or a way to record from your computer (like a cassette or digital voice recorder's microphone held to the speaker), you can podcache.

According to the folks at podcacher.com, (directly from their What Is... page):

1. A PodCache is a geeky / techy fun “game” of treasure hiding and finding.
2. Small containers are hidden for you to find.
3. Audio clues are recorded on an MP3 file that you can listen to with an MP3 player.
4. Listen to the clues, follow the directions and find the “treasure chest”.
5. When you find it, sign the enclosed log book to document your success!!!

It doesn't look like there are any podcaches in our area, but what a neat way to reinvent the game!

This is a link to their archived podcaches, which incidentally, link to caches on geocaching.com!
Archived Podcache. You can also do a podcache keyword search to find them on geocaching.com, and their related mp3 files.

So who's going to be the first Long Island Geocacher to think up a podcache? I've got my ipod ready to go!
